Child Health Institute of New Jersey
The Child Health Institute of New Jersey is part of the larger pediatric academic health campus in New Brunswick, which includes the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School's Department of Pediatrics and Pediatric Clinical Research Center, as well as the adjoining Bristol-Myers Squibb Children's Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, and PSE&G Children’s Specialized Hospital.
Allergy, Immunology, and Infectious Disease
We provide consultation for children and young adults with allergies or immune disorders. Patients may be referred on either an outpatient or inpatient basis. Our infectious disease division provides outpatient and inpatient consultation for children with diagnostic or therapeutic problems thought to be infectious in origin.
Our pediatric endocrinology program at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School provides expert diagnostic and therapeutic care to children and adolescents with common and rare endocrine disorders.
Gifted Child Clinic
Our clinic serves as a referral agency for children who are thought to be gifted or talented. Children between 3 and 12 years of age are referred by parents, pediatricians and educators.
We provide clinical evaluation for genetic disorders, comprehensive genetic counseling, and risk assessment for patients and their families. We also offer continuing care for patients with genetic and inborn metabolic conditions, coordinate their multidisciplinary care, and help them access resources related to their condition.
Nephrology and Hypertension
We provide compassionate and comprehensive care to infants, children, and teenagers with disorders of the urinary tract, from birth until age 21 years, and also counsels mothers when a kidney problem is discovered during pregnancy. Because kidney disease is often associated with elevated blood pressure, we also specialize in the evaluation and treatment of hypertension.
Neurology and Neurodevelopmental Disabilities
Our child neurology doctors perform comprehensive evaluations and treatment of children with suspected disorders of the nervous system. Our division of developmental disabilities provides comprehensive evaluation and management of children with a spectrum of developmental disorders.

Pre-Surgical Developmental Assessment for Potential Cochlear Implant
Our psychologists conduct developmental assessments for children with profound hearing loss being considered for cochlear implant surgery. We work with a multidisciplinary team including audiologists, speech/language pathologists, and otolaryngologists to assist families in weighing the risks and benefits of surgery.
We provide comprehensive care for a full range of respiratory conditions in a family-centered program. Inpatient care and services are at the Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, which is located on the same campus as the outpatient center.
