Domestic Violence Awareness Month
October 1, 2024
Dear Rutgers Health Community,
Domestic violence remains a public health issue that affects individuals, loved ones, and entire communities. An average of 24 people per minute are victims of intimate partner violence in the United States each year, based on data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This October, Rutgers Health recognizes Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) with a commitment to supporting survivors and speaking up against harassing, controlling, and abusive behaviors.
The Office for Violence Prevention & Victim Assistance (VPVA) offers a range of programs throughout October to honor those impacted and build awareness about prevention and intervention. We encourage everyone at Rutgers Health to participate, reflect on your role in healthy relationships, and challenge attitudes that perpetuate abuse.
Open conversations about domestic violence empower all of us to take an active part in prevention and support. Learn more about how you can join DVAM activities this October here.
For survivors, we remind you that you are not alone and that we have resources to help you. For more on support services, call or text VPVA at 973-972-4636.
Thank you for joining us in fostering a safe and supportive campus community.
