Rutgers Introduces Clinical and Research Data Warehouse
January 26, 2024
Dear Rutgers Colleagues,
It is with great pleasure that we announce the availability of the Rutgers Clinical and Research Data Warehouse (CRDW) – a secure, HIPAA-compliant central repository that includes diverse healthcare data and essential analytical tools that the Rutgers community can leverage to gain insights into medical conditions, outcomes, and treatments.
The CRDW will allow us to unite diverse healthcare data from sources that include Electronic Medical Records (EMRs), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Tumor Registries, Biospecimen Repositories, and other cutting-edge medical imaging and genomics repositories. Very specifically, the clinical data from the EPIC system used for RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Health patient care operations is now available for clinical translational research. The other databases will be linked to it in the future. Physicians and researchers will have resources to systematically mine and review the molecular, genomic, image-based, and correlated clinical information of patients individually or as part of large cohorts to identify changes and patterns that may influence treatment decisions and potential outcomes or lead to research breakthroughs in treatment and diagnosis. Those insights will grow as we incorporate other datasets that could potentially integrate with the EMR data to further enrich the warehouse.
As a direct outcome of the partnership between Rutgers Health and RWJBarnabas Health, this has truly been a collaborative effort involving many individuals from across our organizations. Because of these efforts, the CRDW is expected to become an invaluable resource to our academic healthcare enterprise.
The Rutgers Office of Advanced Research Computing within the Office of Information Technology will manage and support the new environment. To learn more about the CRDW, including details on fees and benefits, please visit the Rutgers CRDW website. For questions, please email crdw_requests@oarc.rutgers.edu.
