The Well‑Being Lab at Rutgers Health

Improving health care for all by advancing well‑being for patients, students, and the healthcare workforce

Advancing Healthcare Workforce Well‑Being

The Well‑Being Lab is a hub for innovative research and evidence-based programs and interventions that aim to foster a culture of well-being in healthcare and academic medicine.

Anchored at Rutgers Health, in close partnership with RWJBarnabas Health, the lab brings together leading researchers, clinicians, and learners to implement solutions that support individuals and systems alike, and create sustainable, compassionate, and resilient healthcare communities.

How We Work

The Well-Being Lab fosters collaboration among nationally recognized faculty, including members of the National Academy of Medicine, in fields such as medicine, neuroscience, and organizational behavior, and leverages emerging tools including AI and wearable technology to develop practical solutions. The core focus areas of our work include:

  • Contemplative consciousness and mindfulness
  • Neurowellness and nervous system regulation
  • Workforce well-being and professional fulfillment
  • Student health and resilience (including medical students’ sleep optimization)
  • Patient-centered well-being innovations
