The university’s flagship event on Saturday features hundreds of activities, including a football game, in spite of a wet forecast

Rutgers Day is a rain-or-shine event, and organizers are making sure it’s still going to shine despite the threat of a soggy Saturday.

Many activities are shifting indoors on Busch campus in Piscataway and the College Avenue and Cook/Douglass campuses in New Brunswick. The premier spring event at Rutgers University–New Brunswick is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Here’s an overview of what’s changing (and what’s staying the same) for Rutgers Day activities. For the most up-to-date information, visit the Rutgers Day page.

Busch

Many programs focused on health and science are heading indoors, including:

  • The Health Village activities and demonstrations focused on Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences programs and other health-related initiatives will now be held in the gymnasium of the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center, 656 Bartholomew Road, Piscataway.
  • Other programming, such as Rutgers Business School events, will be held in the Busch Student Center, 604 Bartholomew Road, Piscataway.
  • Stage performances also shift from outdoors to the Busch Student Center.
  • Engineering programs will be held in the Richard Weeks Hall of Engineering, 500 Bartholomew Road.
  • The Faraday Physics Lecture, a humor-charged demonstration and talk for children of all ages, will be held in the Physics Lecture Hall, 120 Frelinghuysen Road, Piscataway.

College Avenue

In New Brunswick, Rutgers Day programs will be split between the College Avenue Gymnasium (130 College Ave.), the College Avenue Student Center (126 College Ave.) and the Graduate School of Education (10 Seminary Place).

Changes for Rutgers Day on College Avenue include:

  • Stage performances now will be held in Red Lion Café at the College Avenue Student Center.
  • The “R” garden – an art installation made of 3-D Rutgers “R” sculptures that is a Rutgers Day staple (and a fun photo opportunity) – and other programming are planted in the atrium of the College Avenue Student Center.
  • The performance by the Rutgers marching band is canceled.

Cook/Douglass

There are no changes for the New Jersey Folk Festival.

This celebration of the arts and traditions will be held on the great lawn of the Eagleton Institute of Politics at 131 George St., New Brunswick. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and features food and craft vendors.

As for other events at the Cook/Douglass location, major changes include:

  • Ag Field Day, a series of programs at the College Farm presented by the Rutgers School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, will still take place (including the animal shows). The plant sale will still take place outdoors.
  • Other Cook and Douglass campus programming will take place in the Douglass Student Center at 100 George St. and the Cook/Douglass Recreation Center at 50 Biel Road.
  • Stage performances will take place in Trayes Hall at the Douglass Student Center.

What About the Football Game? It's Still On.

Rutgers Day 2023 will include the annual Scarlet-White Game, a preseason scrimmage between members of the Rutgers football team. Presented by PNC and set to broadcast live on the Big Ten Network, the on-field action kicks off at 3 p.m. at SHI Stadium, 1 Scarlet Knight Way, Piscataway.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early to take part in pregame festivities beginning at 2 p.m. and featuring some favorite elements of The Rutgers Boardwalk, including rides, games, giveaways and an NFL Knights autograph session. Parking and admission are free.
