Disability Awareness Month

Dear Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences Community,

October is Disability Awareness Month and we invite you to join us in celebrating the important role people with disabilities play in our community. 

As we commemorate Disability Awareness Month this October, we invite you to reflect on the important role that individuals with disabilities play in making our community—one of the most, if not the most, diverse in the Big Ten—vibrant, inclusive and accessible.

Disability can take different forms, from apparent to invisible disabilities. Disability Awareness Month at Rutgers represents an opportunity to raise awareness and to learn about disabilities while recognizing the important role the disability community plays as an integral part of the larger Rutgers.

The RBHS Office of Disability Services provides students, trainees, faculty, and staff with resources for creating a more welcoming, inclusive, equitable, and accessible learning environment. Rutgers is a global leader in disability and employment research and RBHS is home to The Boggs Center on Developmental Disabilities.  Rutgers is also proud of the Program for Disability Research at the School of Management and Labor Relations.

Please take some time to explore our Disability Awareness Month website for a rich schedule of in-person and virtual events, information on how to be an ally, and more. We hope you will join us at events such as Not Your Inspiration: Dehumanizing Disabled People Through Misguided Praise on October 13, Adaptive Sports, Health, and Wellness Day on October 21, The Intersectionality of Domestic Violence and People with Disabilities on October 26th among others.
