Population Health

Office of Clinical and Health Affairs

The Office of Population Health leads and supports a variety of initiatives focused on advancing population health research, education, clinical care, policy, and community engagement across Rutgers University, and its clinical partners, with a goal of improving healthcare outcomes on a population level. Our team is committed to addressing health disparities and promoting equitable outcomes for populations served by Rutgers and its clinical partners throughout the state of New Jersey.

Aligned with the strategic plan, our efforts focus on:

  • Advancing the breadth, depth, and impact of population health research at Rutgers Health
  • Developing and integrating population health and health equity learning opportunities across Rutgers Health
  • Promoting the development, implementation, and evaluation of impactful population health initiatives with our health system partners
  • Pursuing opportunities for policy impact, community engagement, and service to improve the health and equity of our communities

Rutgers Health Service Corps

Rutgers Health Service Corps (RHSC) aims to bring together a cadre of students, faculty, staff, and community members working to improve population and public health across Rutgers’ communities through education, innovation, and service. The program provides members with unique training and service opportunities that promote health, wellness, and equity.

Population Health Fellowship

Our fellows receive hands-on training in the many facets of population health, with opportunities to work in academic, health system, community, and government environments. The fellowship provides experiences and mentorship by population health leaders, preparing fellows for management and leadership roles in population health.

Other Activities

  • Our team co-leads the RWJ University Hospital, New Brunswick Patient Equity and Population Health Workgroup along with the Assistant Vice President for Health Equity. Our efforts focus on understanding and reducing disparities in the processes and outcomes of inpatient care and implementing interventions to improve population health in our Rutgers Health practices.

  • Rutgers Health and RWJBarnabas Health (RWJBH) have embarked on a journey to become a Learning Health System focused on real world data analytics, care innovation, and continuous improvement. We co-lead this joint academic-health system workgroup that promotes the design, implementation, and evaluation of applied research and quality/operations improvement pilot interventions to improve the quality, safety, outcomes, efficiency, and patient-centeredness of care at RWJBH.

  • Example projects include pilot interventions to improve breast, colorectal and lung cancer screening and diabetes management.
