Dr. Noa'a Shimoni Appointed to Lead Student Health Across Rutgers

November 8, 2022

Dear Rutgers Community,

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Noa'a Shimoni, MD, MPH, as Associate Vice President for Student Health and Wellness at Rutgers University and Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Student Health and Wellness at Rutgers–New Brunswick.

In these roles, Dr. Shimoni works collaboratively with student health leaders and representatives from across campuses to identify and advance shared health and wellness strategic priorities. She will lead population and preventive health initiatives as well as direct and coordinate immunization management for the university with the ultimate goal of improving the health and well-being of students here at Rutgers.

Dr. Shimoni has spent her career focusing on wellness, community-building, and integrating physical and behavioral health. Previously, she served as Acting Vice President for Student Health Services from July 2021 until July 2022. In addition, Dr. Shimoni is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, which she joined in 2012, where she directs Student Health at Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences for students who are based in Newark.

In her tenure at Rutgers, Dr. Shimoni has reconceptualized the immunization verification process to network all campuses, improve and standardize communication, and improve the student experience. In the university’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Shimoni was charged with developing policies and protocols to keep our students and the Rutgers community safe. She operationalized the university’s pandemic response, co-leading with Occupational Health to bring together and support our practices across campuses.

Dr. Shimoni’s commitment to Rutgers is deep and enduring. She received her undergraduate degree in mathematics and statistics from Douglass College and her medical degree at NJMS. Dr. Shimoni serves on numerous health committees throughout Rutgers and has been presented with many awards, including the Rutgers University Beloved Community Award for collaboration with VaxCorp.

Dr. Shimoni’s work centers on student well-being. She co-leads the JED Campus initiative to protect student emotional health and prevent suicide. She is committed to providing comprehensive medical care to students and to integrating medical and mental health care through collaborative care models.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Shimoni on this appointment.

Sincerely,

Vicente Gracias, MD
