Flu Season is Over

April 1, 2026

Dear Rutgers Health community,

The New Jersey Department of Health reports that flu activity has fallen to low levels throughout the state. Therefore, the university has determined that Flu Season within the meaning of Policy 100.3.1 is over, effective today.

The intent of Policy 100.3.1 is to enhance the safety of our patients, visitors, clinical faculty and staff, and protect them from exposure to seasonal influenza. In declaring that Flu Season will end, the university has determined that starting today on April 1, 2026, all Covered Individuals are no longer required to obtain additional seasonal influenza vaccines for the 2025-26 flu season. Covered Individuals will still be required to obtain a seasonal influenza vaccine for the next Flu Season, consistent with the policy.

As with any airborne illness, our clinical teams are encouraged to maintain strong public-health practices: consistent hand hygiene, urging colleagues who are ill to stay home, and regularly cleaning shared equipment and spaces.

Thank you to everyone who helped Rutgers University battle the flu again this season and help keep our communities and those we serve healthy.

Wishing you good health.

Vicente Gracias, MD
Senior Vice Chancellor for Clinical Affairs, Rutgers Health
Vice President for Health Affairs, Rutgers University

Robert L. Johnson, MD, FAAP
Interim Chancellor, Rutgers Health
Dean, Rutgers New Jersey Medical School
Professor of Pediatrics
Director of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine
