Dr. Neil Kothari Named Interim Vice Chancellor for GME

Dear Rutgers Health community,

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Neil Kothari, MD, FACP, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Graduate Medical Education (GME) at Rutgers Health, as the Interim Vice Chancellor for GME and Enterprise Wide Designated Institutional Official (DIO).

Dr. Kothari, a distinguished professional with strong Rutgers roots, graduated from New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) after earning his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Columbia University. His commitment to medical excellence has been evident throughout his career, having completed his internship and residency training at Bellevue Hospital-New York University Medical Center and serving as Chief Medical Resident at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

In his current role as the Associate Dean for GME and Associate Professor of Medicine at NJMS, Dr. Kothari has made substantial contributions to the field. At NJMS, he oversees 50 graduate training programs and more than 700 residents and fellows. During his tenure, Dr. Kothari has also enhanced institutional supervision by restructuring the administrative framework of GME.

Dr. Kothari's achievements extend beyond his administrative responsibilities. He has been honored with multiple teaching awards, including being inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society and recognized by the Rutgers Stuart D. Cook Master Educators’ Guild. With over 80 publications in the field of medical education and quality improvement, Dr. Kothari is a distinguished scholar.

In his new role as Interim Vice Chancellor and DIO, Dr. Kothari will continue to advance Rutgers Health GME, working towards achieving the best educational, strategic, and financial structure. He will oversee a state-wide training environment encompassing over 1,600 residents and fellows.
